Arcturus Embers |
It is difficult to get a photo that truly represents the burnt orange and red tones of 'Arcturus Embers'. The coloration is unique and it is a rare reverse bitone with copper orange ruffled petals and red orange sepals. There is a darker burnt orange/red eye and a green/yellow throat. Many guests to the garden commented on the unique coloration of this daylily and expressed their hope that I would register it one day. It is named after the star Arcturus which is known as an orange star. The multiple layers of orange tone colours made me also think of embers as a fire dies down, thus the name 'Arcturus Embers'. This daylily originates from a cross between one of my seedlings (Flying Trapeze x Heavenly United We Stand) as the pod parent and 'Red Volunteer' as the pollen parent. If you're looking for a daylily that will stand out in your garden and draw the attention of onlookers, this is that daylily. It is classified as an Unusual Form Pinched Crispate. Another great quality of this daylily is that it helps to extend the daylily bloom season in the garden and blooms (mid-late) August into September in my coastal Nova Scotia garden. It really has to be seen to be appreciated as a stand-out daylily. $55.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Banks of Jeddore |
This daylily was hybridized by my good Nova Scotia daylily buddy, Ed Kimball. I grew it in my garden for him for the past few years and it has done very well. During the ADS Region 4 summer garden tours it looked great and was a show stopper for many of the visitors. Since my last name is Banks and I live on Jeddore Harbour, he made a nod to me by naming it 'Banks of Jeddore'. As an interesting aside to this name, I am very involved with a men's choir here on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia (Coastal Voices Men's Choir). During the 2019 season we will be performing an arrangement by John Plant of a folksong based loosely on the melody of 'Farewell to Nova Scotia'. The name of the folk song is 'On the Banks of Jeddore'. Interestingly, it was collected in the Beauce region of Quebec. The daylily 'Banks of Jeddore' has been a hardy semi-evergreen in my garden. I live in a coastal region that often has cool foggy nights in the summer, nevertheless, the flower opens well most days. The scapes have 3 branches and up to 18 buds. The parentage is: Belle of Ashwood x Belle Cook. The flower is a beautiful pink with a gold edge and a green throat. $50 DF(Double fan) |

Bill Wilgenhof |
This daylily is out of my registration 'Mary E. Banks' as the pod parent and 'Flying Trapeze' as the pollen parent. Both parents are very northern hardy daylilies and they bring those genetics into this offspring. As well, 'Flying Trapeze' continues to pass on unique designs in many of its offspring, which is the case with 'Bill Wilgenhof'. The flower opens well even after cool nights and is a dark rose pink flower with a chalky pink notched watermark and a green throat that brightens to yellow as the throat emerges outward on the petals. There is a bit of a white edge on the petals, especially on hotter days as the flower fades slightly over the course of the day. The plant has good branching which separates multiple blooms nicely when it forms a clump. The bud count of 18 is fairly high so it will give a fairly long season of bloom, often to the end of August or beyond in my garden. I am pleased to name this one after another Nova Scotian plant person. Bill Wilgenhof and his wife Sharon Bryson, have run Willow Garden in Antigonish for many years and he was a founding member of the Antigonish Garden Club. He has always been willing to share his gardening knowledge over the years and he has done that for many of his 97 years! Over those years he has grown many seedlings from seeds that he obtained. This included many azaleas and rhododendrons but also a huge array of other garden plants, including daylilies! Often, these plants were shared with other gardeners. I am pleased to name this daylily after a person who was generous with sharing plants and his knowledge about gardening with other gardeners and aspiring gardeners. At 32" tall and 5.25" flowers it will show off nicely once established in the garden. $35 DF (Double Fan) |

Bitonal Symphony |
This beautiful daylily combines Ontario hybridizer Brian Culver's 'Inspiration Road' with one of my best introductions 'Lavender Space Journey'. I am very pleased with the outcome. The result is a beautiful purple bitone flower with lighter lilac sepals. It also has a soft lemon yellow applique throat. There is very good 4-5 way branching on the scapes and an average of 18 buds per scape. The flowers begin in midseason and mature clumps have an outstanding display with the contrasting bitone colours. It is a full sibling to my 2020 introduction 'Pink Triangle'. For naming the plant, there actually is such a thing as a bitonal symphony, and a quick google search gives an adequate explanation. However, my use of the name 'Bitonal Symphony' also employs a secondary meaning for bitonal, that being two shades of the same colour. Since the flower is registered as a bitone (dark petals and lighter sepals in the same colour range) I thought 'Bitonal Symphony' was appropriate even if it is a bit of play on words. Brian Smith |
This wonderful daylily is named to honour Brian Smith, the first major daylily grower in Nova Scotia selling to the general public. Brian has promoted daylilies for decades and he is an important founding member of the Nova Scotia Daylily Society. The flower is a dark regal purple, with heavy ruffling and mouse ears on the petals. The dark yellow colour emanating from the throat merges with the purple petals to form a chalky, blue, slate halo with purple/wine veins. The sepals have a thin, pencil-line cream edge. The petals have a creamy yellow heavily ruffled edge. A thinner violet edge separates the purple of the flower from the yellow outer edge. This is an outstanding plant in my garden. It is a hardy dormant and the flowers open well all of the time, the colour is sunfast and there is very little spottiness. It is a cross between 'Forever The Optimist' and 'Super Model'. It is a great addition to any garden. $30 Double Fan |

Celestial Trinity |
This daylily was produced by crossing my 'Emerging Star' as the pod parent with pollen from 'White Eyes Pink Dragon'. It has more of a spider look to it than its full sibling 'Joni Guptil'. However, it is registered as an Unusual Form daylily and has been an outstanding plant in my garden. It actually fits all 3 UF classifications as a Cascade, Spatulate, Crispate Unusual Form and that's why I included Trinity as part of the name. Of course it's star-like look inspired the word celestial and thus 'Celestial Trinity' seems fitting. This daylily has a lot of fantastic qualities that make it a superb garden plant. Most scapes have 5-6 way branching and over 20 buds. Now that's a lot of blooms. Adding this plant to your garden will give you a season of delight as it will bloom from 4-6 weeks as an established clump. A further rarity is that it blooms later in the season so when many other daylilies are winding down for the season it is performing really well! As a dormant, it is a very hardy plant and will come through the worst of winters. The flower is a dark rose pink with a slate halo with a wide lemon yellow throat with hints of green deep at the base of the throat. The yellow extends outward and lightens to near white on the raised and pinched midribs. For a really great plant that will add a sense of motion to your garden in a slight breeze, choose 'Celestial Trinity. Double Fan (DF) $45.00 |

Cerise Surprise |
'Cerise Surprise' is a very lovely clear coloured dayliliy with a bud count of 15 per scape and 3-4 way branching. It is a cerise coloured flower with a chalky cerise halo around a yellow throat. It has a good bud count and starts to bloom in midseason and extends into the mid-late season often finishing in early September. The branching is well spaced so that mature clumps have a balanced look and also flowers that open well even after cool overnight temperatures. If you're looking for a daylily that extends past the midseason and looks great even in cooler weather, this a very good choice. $35 DF (Double fan) |

Cherry Blossom Discovery |
This daylily has a stunningly beautiful clear-coloured dark rose pink flower with a large dark wine eye. It has gentle ruffles around the petals and to a lesser degree around the sepals. The dark wine colour of the eye surrounds the outside of the petals and an additional light cream, pencil-line edge is also visible on the outside rim of the petals. A large green throat enhances the deep wine colour of the eye. Narrow raised ridges extend from the throat out towards the eye, and dark wine veins extend in a starburst fashion from the throat, creating a light wine shadow as it joins to the darker main eye. The scapes have 3-4 way branching and it has an excellent bud count usually from 18-25 buds. In my garden the flower is larger than either of its parents' blooms ('Cherry Lane' x 'Loaves and Fishes'). I have been growing this daylily successfully in my garden for more than 5 years. However, it is an evergreen and I do not recommend moving it or dividing it in late summer or fall. If you need to move it, I would stick to springtime division. Once established it is a great plant. My daylily friend and fellow hybridizer Ed Kimball, noticed it growing in my garden and brought it to my attention as I had overlooked it. Therefore, I named it Cherry Blossom Discovery. $28 Double Fan |

Coastal Harmony |
This daylily is a beautiful yellow cream blend that lightens during the day. It has a three-lobed yellow throat with a dark wine eye notched at each apex. The petals are edged in wine with an outer gold edge. The flower is an early morning opener (EMO) that recurves beautifully and every flower opens well and looks great even on cool mornings. The pod parent is 'Spirit Zone' and the pollen parent 'El Desperado'. The plant has 3-5 way branching and a great bud count of 20-25. It was named by members of our local Coastal Voices Men's Choir and all proceeds go to support the choir. |

Cupid and Eros |
'Cupid and Eros' is out of my 2016 registration 'Cherry Blossom Discovery' as the pod parent crossed with 'Hello Screamer'. The resulting seedlings had very high bud counts and most were hardier than both parents. "Cupid and Eros' was selected by one of my employees with another name in mind, however, that name was already registered so I decided on 'Cupid and Eros' because of the very large heart-shaped eye on the flower. The petals and sepals are a soft pink colour with a dark pink, almost red eye and edge and a yellow throat. The flower is large sized and the bud count is very high with 24 or more buds per scape. Even though there is a high bud count, the flowers are held nicely apart due to 4-5 way branching on the scapes. This is an excellent plant for a long season of bloom due to the number of buds per scape. At 41" tall it has good height as a major display plant in the garden. If you're looking for a plant that will give lots of blooms over a long bloom period and that will stand above many other plants, this could fill that hole in your garden! $35.00 DF (Double fan) |

Don Butler |
As a mature clump this plant stands out in the garden. It has a large 5.75" flower on 2-3 way branching with a good bud count of 15. The flower is a lemon yellow self with a wine eye and a green yellow throat. There are touches of a narrow wine edge on the petals as well as a delicate crimped edge. It is easily pod and pollen fertile and is a very hardy dormant, recovering well from early fall division. (El Desperado x Dragon Flight) This daylily is named to honour my good friend and past present of the Nova Scotia Association of Garden Cubs, Don Butler, for his contribution promoting landscape gardening in Nova Scotia. $14 DF (Double Fan). |

Donna Evers |
From the first time I saw this daylily I loved it. I am pleased to be able to register it and introduce it because it has qualities that make it unique. I don't do much hybridizing with diploid daylilies but I got 2 seeds from a pod a number of years ago and this one was selected for further evaluation. Unfortunately, the tag was lost and I am uncertain of the parentage. It is a unique flower because it is a reverse bitone, which are relatively rare among daylilies. It is also a late blooming plant which helps to extend the season when the bulk of daylilies are finished blooming. The flowers are classified as Unusual Form and it is further classified as a Twisted Crispate. The scapes have good branching which provides a lovely bouquet effect when multiple flowers are open. The plant has a good density of scapes so even though the bud count is not extremely high it produces lots of flowers. I am happy to name this daylily after one of my good gardening friends, Donna Evers. Donna is a literal encyclodedia of knowledge about plants. She is not only an encyclopedia but a real gardener too. She and her husband Duff have gardened together for their entire married life. So, Donna's knowledge goes beyond sitting at a computer doing plant searches. She and Duff have actually filled their property with whatever shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals and bulbs that would grow in their varied conditions, from bog, rock walls, shade and sun. Their garden looks like it is right out of a gardening magazine and has been visited by countless garden groups and individuals. An educator by profession, Donna is always ready to guide and educate those visitors. Many people have been the recipient of her very generous heart, receiving all kinds of plants and even some of her handiwork or scrumptious baking! Recently, she and Duff spearheaded an effort to turn a section of Halifax Regional Municipality land beside their property, into a beautiful meadow. It was a wonderful success and was recently featured in Saltscapes magazine. For her great contribution to landscape gardening in Nova Scotia I dedicate this daylily to Donna Evers. $55.00 DF (Double fan) |

Emerging From Warp Speed |
This daylily is a cross between 'Ruby Spider' x 'Cloud Chaser'. This Unusual Form (Pinched Crispate) is a very dark purple self with a noticeably darker chevron pattern on the petals and sepals. The large golden yellow throat with hints of green, spreads outward on the petals and sepals. Dark veining is clearly evident on all of the tepals. A light coloured, slightly raised midrib is barely noticeable on the petals. 3-way branching and 14 buds. This is a very vigorous, hardy plant and has been very popular with visitors to the gardens. $16 (Double fan) |

Emerging Star |
This daylily is a beautiful dark wine purple self with a green starburst throat fading to yellow as it extends outward on the petals and sepals. A chalky violet halo on the petals and sepals encircles the star-shaped centre. A slightly raised narrow, white midrib extends to the ends of the petals. This daylily is a vigorous grower with excellent plant habit, and as a dormant is very hardy. It has a very good bud count of 18 with 6-7 way branching. Although a midseason bloomer, the high bud count helps to extend the bloom season into mid-late. It is both pod and pollen fertile and combines my 2014 introduction 'Meenoo's Wings' with 'Super Model'. $18 DF (Double Fan). |

Etched Mahogany |
This daylily has been a standout for visitors to the garden and for those who have seen photos of it. One of the parents is a seedling of mine that has a unique coloration. Unfortunately, that plant has not been hardy enough to register and distribute in my gardening zone. However, I believed that its gene pool carried distinctive qualities that were worth trying to capture, but I needed to breed hardiness into the offspring. After analyzing what might preserve the unique coloration of the seedling but also add hardiness, I crossed the seedling with 'Mahogany Belle' using both plants as pod parents but I only got seeds from (Spirit Zone x Gavin Petit) x 'Mahogany Belle' and not from the reverse cross. I need to explore this cross further but sometimes work gets in the way! From the seed that I got 'Etched Mahogany' stood out as a hardier plant than its pod parent, but it also preserved some of the unique coloration from that parent. The flower is a reverse bitone burnt orange mahogany with a very dark, almost black etched eye. There are hints of green in the golden yellow throat and a starburst effect with the dark, etched lines from the eye. The petal colour becomes lighter toward the edges and there is a pencil line darker edge on the petals that has a secondary rim of light cream on the outer extremity of the petal edges. The petals are also slightly ruffled. The flower appearance can change slightly from day to day and in different amounts of heat but it remains a standout unique flower. If you're looking for something a little different, this daylily may appeal to you. In addition, it is a mid-late season bloomer so it will help to extend the bloom season in your garden. It has an average bud count of 14 with 3-4 way branching on the scapes. Double fan (DF) $58.00 |

Face Plant |
This large flowered daylily with 6.5" blooms is a very good show stopper since it has very good 4-5 way branching and up to 20 or more buds per scape. As a mature clump it puts on a great show, blooming over several weeks. The flower is pink with a very large wine eye and a matching wine edge with a slight hint of cream around the outer lip of the wine edge. It is a full sibling to 'Cupid and Eros', combining the genetics of my 2016 registration 'Cherry Blossom Discovery' crossed with 'Hello Screamer'. Although there are similar looking daylilies on the market I am pleased with the hardiness, the multiple blooms, and long bloom season of this made in Nova Scotia daylily. 'Face Plant' was named due to the dark purple eye on a flesh coloured daylily, reminiscent of anyone who happened to unfortunately take a face-first tumble and receive a black eye as a battle scar. $35.00 DF (Double fan) |

Frosted Hot Spot |
This daylily comes from a cross of my introduction 'Annapolis Valley Mountains' as the pod parent crossed with Curt Hanson's 'Rock Lobster'. Since both parents had sculpting in the flower, I was hoping that some of the offspring would exhibit this trait as well. I was rewarded with several seedlings with sculpted flowers and I finally settled on this one to register and introduce. I love the beautifull clear colour. The flower sculpting is more evident for the beginning and middle of the bloom cycle. Nevertheless, the flowers are a beautiful cherry red with white edges and white midribs above a yellow throat throughout the bloom season. The scapes have 3-4 way branching and an average bud count of 18. If you want to get your dayliliy season started with a standout daylily, this early-midseason bloomer will do the job. Provide some white or yellow flowers near it and you will have a winning floral combination. 'Frosted Hot Spot' added to your garden will keep you smiling for several weeks of daylily bloom. $58.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Fuchsia Space Beacon |
'Fuchsia Space Beacon' is from a cross with my 2016 registration 'Lavender Space Journey' as the pod parent and 'White Eyes Pink Dragon' as the pollen parent. The result was a very high bud count (in my garden) of more than 25 buds per scape and 2-3 way branching on the scapes. As an Unusual Form Crispate daylily, the clusters of flowers always open well and there is a steady and amazing bloom performance for 3-5 weeks. This extends through all of the midseason and into early late season. Early in the day the petals are more of a darker purple and change to a more vibrant fuchsia. The genetics make it a good breeder for anyone interested in UF daylilies. Because of the long bloom season, the fuchsia tepals with the yellow throat and lighter watermark, light up the garden like a beacon through much of the summer. The star like shape also gives it an extraterrestrial feel. This is a very hardy daylily with a long bloom season and lots of colourful flowers making it an absolute winner. $30.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Gail Guye |
This daylily is named to honour one of my first customers (Gail Romo) and an unfailing friend and volunteer helper at our gardens, who loves daylilies. Although the plant is an evergreen, it is very hardy. It was lined out as single fans in late summer and overwintered exceptionally well with no losses and great spring growth. The flower is a medium light rose pink self. A soft lemon yellow throat forms a beautiful triangle with the lemon yellow echoed at the beginning of the sepals. A raised cream coloured midrib extends the full length of the petals. The flower has heavy substance that holds up well in sun or rain and is both pod and pollen fertile. The cross combines Canadian hybridizer John Peat's 'Lupita Vindaz' with the 2014 Stout Silver Medal winner 'Websters Pink Wonder'. $18 DF (Double Fan) |

Galactic Eclipse |
Several years ago I crossed the daylily 'Gavin Petit' with 'Loaves and Fishes', resulting in several interesting seedlings with dark eyes. However, none were very vigorous or particularly hardy. I selected the best one of the bunch for breeding purposes to work on vigour and hardiness while trying to keep the darker colours. A cross of (Gavin Petit x Loaves and Fishes1) with 'Clarification' produced some great looking seedlings and many are vigorous and most are hardy in my garden. 'Galactic Eclipse' is the first of those seedlings to be registered, with others being considered. Additionally, I have been using them in my breeding program with lots of great looking seedlings now being evaluated. 'Galactic Eclipse' is a mid-late blooming daylily so it blooms through August into early September in my cool coastal garden. It is a gorgeous clear coloured daylily. The flower is a deep wine in colour with a very dark wine (near black) eye and edge. Wine striations extend from the dark eye into the yellow throat giving the effect of a star emerging from an eclipse in the middle of a very dark galaxy. For those who are drawn to darker colours this is a must have intensely coloured daylily. Surrounded by yellow or lighter coloured flowers this daylily will make a statement in your garden! Each bloomstalk has 2-3 way branching and a good bud count of 15 that will provide bouquets of blooms in the mid-late season garden. $65.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Gay Harmony |
I've been growing this lovely, delicate looking daylily for about 6 years and wondering whether I would register it or not. Many customers who came through the garden expressed how much they liked it and I decided since I now had quite a bit of it, that it would make a good fundraiser for an appropriate group. I have been involved in choral singing for many years and it is one my passions, so I decided to help out a newly formed men's choir in Halifax, the Halifax Gay Men's Chorus. The choir provided the name for the daylily and I am happy to say that all proceeds from the sale of this dayliliy will go to their choir. The 5" flower is distinctive and is great in combination with a variety of other flower colours. It is of medium height at 30" tall and therefore versatile for landscaping purposes. It begins to bloom early in the season and with an average bud count of 15 per scape, it will continue blooming for a fairly long period of time. The flower is a bitone pattern with petals that are rose coloured with darker rose veins and sepals that are cream with rose streaks. 'Gay Harmony'comes out of my 2011 introduction 'Violet's Army' crossed with 'Ethereal Light'. It has proved to be a very hardy plant and a vigorous grower. $25 DF (Double fan) |

Inextinguishable Flame |
‘Inextinguishable Flame’ is a great daylily. It is the result of a cross between my introduction ‘Lloyd’s Hillendale Sunrise’ and Jamie Gossard’s ‘Heavenly United We Stand’. The very large 8” flower is a reverse bitone with red sepals and orange red petals. The green-yellow throat opens outward to a dark red eye. The petal edges are slightly puckered giving a lacy look. Its 46” tall scapes have 3-4 way branching with up to an amazing 35 buds per stalk. This daylily has one of the best bud counts of any that I have introduced. If you’re looking for a daylily with height and great presence and that also blooms for close to 2 months this one won’t disappoint you. It really lives up to its name! ‘Inextinguishable Flame’ is a hardy dormant daylily that begins blooming mid-late in the season and continues blooming into the fall. If you add this one to your garden, once it is established you can expect it to provide blooms from midsummer into the fall, day after day! Honestly, who doesn’t want that kind of performance in their garden! $65 DF (Double fan) |

Intricate Matrix |
The bloom on 'Intricate Matrix' is a lovely pale cream with a hint of yellow. Deep at the base of the throat the flower is an emerald green colour that merges into a full lemon yellow throat extending one third of the way out on the flower. The yellow throat is surrounded by a dark violet band that is only slightly echoed as a thin line on the sepals. The violet band is notched at the midribs and the darker violet veins in the band contrast with the lighter violet of the band to give it an overall stained glass effect. The creamy pale yellow petals and sepals exhibit gently ruffled edges. There are some daylilies that look similar, however, some of those are not hardy in our climate. This one is a hardy dormant plant. In addition, it has 4-way branching on the scapes, and the scapes have an average bud count of 22 which gives it a long season of bloom in the garden. If you are looking for a hardy, paler coloured daylily with a long period of bloom, this one fills that role very well. 'Dragon Flight' x 'El Desperado' $16 Double Fan |

Jimmy Kidson |
This daylily was noted for further evaluation from the first time that it bloomed. It is difficult to capture in a photo the full intensity of the saturated, beautiful dark colour of its flower. The petals are a slightly ruffled deep wine colour with a very intense black eye. Dark veins radiate inward from the eye into the throat, giving a starburst effect. There is also a dark edge on the petals that matches the dark eye of the daylily and the edge has a pencil line lighter, outer rim. Surrounded by yellow or lighter coloured daylilies or perennials in the garden, this daylily will literally draw you into its inner dark beauty. It is a cross between one of my seedlings ('Gavin Petit' x 'Loaves and Fishes') and Bryan Culver's 'David White'. There is an average bud count of 15 with 2-3 way branching on the scapes. I am very pleased to dedicate this daylily to the memory of Jimmy Kidson, an excavator operator extraordinaire, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in December 2021. Jimmy learned to operate excavation equipment at a very young age from his father, and went on to practice his craft for over 50 years. I was very privileged to have Jimmy work on much of the transformation of our property from rugged hillside to its present garden beauty. I was also privileged to work together with Jimmy on several landscaping projects on other properties. The Eastern Shore and surrounding areas have been a convas bearing testament to his skill. From septic fields to beautiful gardens, rock walls and sea walls, as well as ponds or rock sculptures like his huge Inukshuk in Oyster Pond, Jimmy has left his mark on the landscape of the Eastern Shore. It represents a lifetime of work that may persist for centuries to come! For his contribution to landscape gardening and landscaping in general, I am glad to honour the memory of Jimmy Kidson with this daylily. $65.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Jodi DeLong |
This cross between 'Spirit Zone'and 'Carpet Bagger' is a beautiful peach self with a large wine/rose lightly feathered eye on the petals and a matching outline on the sepals. There is a narrow wine/rose edge on the petals, starting in the throat and then morphing to a golden edge further out on the petals. There are fairly heavy ruffles on the petals with lighter ruffles on the sepals. The flower has a green throat fading to yellow and then melding to gold and rose, as it extends outward into the eye. This plant has been my favorite seedling over the past couple of years. It is an early morning opener even on cool mornings. I get tired of purchasing daylilies that do not always perform well in my climate, so I am happy to say that I cannot recall seeing it ever open poorly. Additionally, it looks great at any time of the day. It has a fairly high bud count of 20 and 3-4 way branching. $24 (Double fan) It is named to honour my friend and prominent Atlantic Canadian plant writer, Jodi DeLong. |

Joni Guptil |
This Cascade Unusual Form daylily is named to honour my friend and a great gardener, Joni Guptill. A quick google search of Joni Guptill's name reveals a lifetime of accomplishments related mainly to her profession as a medical doctor. She was very involved with Medicins sans Frontieres (MSF) (Doctors without borders) both in the field in a variety of countries and at home in setting up the Atlantic Office of MSF. She also served on the Board and as president of MSF Canada. She received the Distinguished Alumni award from Acadia University as well as an honorary doctorate. She ran a medical practice in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and continues a family practice in Nova Scotia. Like Joni, this daylily has been outstanding. It is a full sibling to 'Celestial Trinity'. The flower is a very large 8 inches on tall 40", scapes so the size of the flower and the height of the scapes gives this flower presence in the garden! It is a very hardy dormant that really helps to extend the daylily bloom season because the average bud count is over 20 per scape and it is a late blooming cultivar. If you're looking for a plant to add colour to your late season garden this one is for you! Additionally, the scapes have 4-5 way branchng, giving all those flowers great spacing on strong sturdy scapes. The deep wine red/pink petals have a large slate pink halo that is echoed on the sepals. A tinge of green deep in the throat of the flower turns to bright yellow as it extends outward and then fades to cream as it travels along the raised midribs. The parents are my 'Emerging Star' crossed with 'White Eyes Pink Dragon'. Double Fan (DF) $35.00 |

Karen of the Lake |
This Unusual Form (Pinched Crispate) daylily is a very hardy evergreen, like its sibling Gail Guye. It is named to honour my friend, garden helper, and lover of daylilies, Karen Patterson. Since Gail and Karen are very good friends, it is appropriate that their daylilies are siblings from a cross of 'Lupita Vindaz' x 'Websters Pink Wonder'. The flowers are held just above the foliage and it blooms during the mid-late season. The flower is a dark rose pink self. There is a soft yellow star-shaped throat. A large, light violet eye zone encloses the yellow throat, which in turn is encircled by a darker rose red line on the petals and sepals. The violet area and red line are more obvious in the early morning. This violet eye zone melds into the surrounding dark rose pink tepals as the day progresses. Sections of the outer edges of the sepals and petals have a lighter coloured edge. This edge appears as cream on some flowers and as light pink on sections of other flowers. 13 buds with 3-4 way branching. $16DF (Double Fan) |

Lavender Space Journey |
'Lavender Space Journey' is a full sibling to 'Out Of The Fog' and my 2015 introduction, 'Emerging Star'. The parents are my 2014 introduction 'Meenoo's Wings' and Jamie Gossards ' Super Model'. All of these dayliles have high bud counts and excellent branching. They are all rock solid hardy dormants. 'Lavender Space Journey' has a beautiful bi-tone flower with pale lavender petals and lighter sepals. The throat begins as green and merges into a pale yellow. There is an applique eye that is often visible surrounding the yellow throat and that feathers out to form a slate gray halo. This is a standout daylily in the garden, with a form and colour not commonly seen. It has a high bud count of 25, making it a prolific bloomer, especially in an established clump, where the 4-way branching spaces the flowers out nicely. The plant has good height and stands above many other daylilies. The 7.5" flowers remind me of spaceships, and helped with naming it. $30 Double Fan |

Lilacs and Lavender |
With 5-6 way branching and a bud count of 35, 'Lilacs and Lavender' represents a step forward in breeding for a late blooming daylily with a very high bud count. This daylily resulted from a cross of my 'Lavender Space Journey' with 'Chateau Belair'. 'Lilacs and Lavender' is a bitone with lilac petals and a white midrib and lighter lilac sepals and a lemon yellow throat. If you're looking for a hardy daylily to extend the daylily bloom season in your garden, this daylily with 35 buds per scape will definitely do the job. $60.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Linda Marie |
The daylily Linda Marie was created from a cross between 'Flying Trapeze' and 'White Eyes Pink Dragon'. Both parents have contributed excellent qualities that make this a standout daylily in the garden. Everything from the saturated colour that holds up in the sun, down to the wonderful design of the face of the flower, to its hardiness as a plant, make this a daylily to be desired. The colour is a clear dark pink with a green-tinged yellow throat that joins with a strikingly beautiful chalky light pink watermark. The flower provides one of the most pleasing colour palettes from any of my introductions. The scapes have 3-way branching and and an average of 14 buds. Linda Marie is named to honour Linda Smith, a good friend who served on the board of the Nova Scotia Daylily Society during my time as president, and who with her husband has worked selflessly for the promotion of daylilies in Nova Scotia. $55 DF (Double fan). |

Lloyd's Hillendale Sunrise |
The flower on this plant is a stunning burnt orange with pencil-lined edges. It stands out in the garden with its very large golden yellow throat extending halfway out on the petals and sepals to form a golden star shape. The petals have ruffled edges with some ruffling exhibited on the sepals. The sepals exhibit cascading and some sculpting is visible on most blooms (ridges extending out 3/4 of the way on the petals). The flower has very heavy substance and holds up well in the rain. There is 3-5 way branching which distributes the blooms really well and it has an average bud count of 15. The plant is pollen and pod fertile with some difficulty. It is a very hardy dormant even though one parent is evergreen (Primal Scream x Purple Badger). It is named to honour Lloyd Mapplebeck for his contribution to landscape gardening in Nova Scotia. $32DF (Double Fan) |

Lords and Ladies |
'Lords And Ladies' has a very clear coloured bright yellow bloom with a dark wine eye. Raised midribs bisect the eye with cream coloured spears that pierce the eye and pull the wine colour out further onto the petals, giving the eye a larger, pointed, triangular look. A thin, dark wine coloured edge envelopes the petals. As a mature clump this daylily puts on a great display and blooms over a long period of time. It has 3-4 way branchig and an average of 15-20 buds per scape. The flowers always open well on this plant. I have succesfully grown it for seven years; nevertheless, it is an evergreen plant that I consider less hardy than some of my other daylilies. I recommend if you plan to move it or to divide it, that you do so in the spring or early summer only, so that the plant gets well established before winter. This one involved crossing 'Lady Bandit' with 'Magnify The Lord', which helped to produce the name! $20 DF Double Fan |

This is a cross between one of my previous introductions, 'Red-Edged Sunrise' with 'Gavin Petit'. It has a peach coloured flower with a very large dark maroon eye. There is a very thick matching maroon edge on the petals that narrows as it extends outward from the throat, and is bordered by a light cream coloured rim. It has a greenish yellow throat with a prominent peach-coloured midrib extending out into the maroon eye. The sepals have a hint of maroon on the edge bordered by a narrow gold rim. It has been a hardy evergreen in my garden, having survived five winters with no protection. It is named to honour my father and has 3-4 way branching and 14 buds. $14 (Double fan) |

Luscious Lavender Lips |
I wish my camera skills were such that I could capture the true essence of colour in this daylily bloom. I am not completely satisfied with any of my photos. The dalily bloom on 'Luscious Lavender Lips' is a gorgeous cream coloured flower. It has a large lemon yellow throat that is surrounded by a very large light purple/lavender eye. The lavender/purple colour traces the outside edge of the gently ruffled petals. The beautiful shade of purple on the eye and edge of this daylily is very showy and not that common for eyed and edged daylilies in my garden. The scapes have 3-4 way branching and it has a good bud count of 15. It is a full sibling with 'Midsummer Blooming Bouquet' having come from a cross of 'Arabian Trail' and 'Clarification'. $18 DF Double Fan |

Mauve Tiara |
'Mauve Tiara' is a fuchsia mauve flower with slate undertones and a large cream watermark. The watermark is edged in a darker mauve with a slightly ragged texture. There are hints of a green throat that are overcast in yellow. Raised creamy white midribs extend out from the throat to the end of the petals. The petals are tightly crimped, and to a lesser extent the sepals. A golden pencil-line edge with a lacquer cast is visible on the outer edge of the petals. The pod parent is 'Forever The Optimist' crossed with 'Supermodel'. 'Mauve Tiara' has been a very hardy dormant plant for me and helps to extend the daylily bloom season with its mid-late season blooms. It is a very good plant for anyone wanting large flowers a little later in the season. The scapes have 2-3 way branching and an average of 18 buds. $24 DF (Double fan) |

'Ruby Spider' x 'Cloud Chaser'. This Unusual Form (Pinched Crispate) daylily is a very dark purple self with a yellow throat that spreads outward in a starburst fashion on the petals and repeats on the sepals. Light coloured midribs bisect the petals, and to a lesser degree the sepals. Dark veining is evident on the petals where the two colours meet. The colour is very clear and holds up well in the sun, making it stand out in the garden. Midsummer Blooming Bouquet |
This daylily is flesh pink with a slight green tinge at the bottom of the throat that turns to yellow as it expands outward on the tepals. There is a large, dark wine eye and also a dark wine edge on the petals. The dark edge is outlined in a pale cream, pencil-line edge. The petal edges also exhibit tight ruffling. Midsummer Blooming Bouquet is a great colourfast flower, even on very hot, sunny days. Although there are flowers that look similar, it is an outstanding plant and surpasses many that are on the market. It is a very hardy dormant plant with 5-6 way branching and a bud count of 25. The combination of great branching and bud count, help to give this plant it's name. It starts blooming in midsummer and blooms profusely with the flowers well-placed, like a bouquet. Midsummer Blooming Bouquet is a great garden addition for someone looking for a standout plant with plenty of blooms. Mulberry Eye Deal |
Mulberry Eye Deal combines the great bloom habit of my 'Cherry Blossom Discovery' with the exceptional colours of 'Swallow Tail Kite'. The result is a large flowered unique mulberry coloured daylily with a dark purple eye and purple veins extending from the eye into the yellow throat. With 3-4 way branching and a good bud count of 16 buds per bloomstalk, you are guaranteed 3-4 weeks or more of large show-off blooms in your garden. $55.00 DF (Double fan) |

Niki Jabbour |
This daylily is named to honour Niki Jabbour, a Nova Scotia garden writer, authour, and radio host. The flower is a beautiful peach/cream blend with ruffled petals. The outer edge of the petals has a thin white, pencil-edge outline surrounding a quarter inch wide, dark purple edge. The flower has a huge clear-coloured dark purple eye, with a raised midrib that pierces the eye with a narrow peach strip. The dark eye and edge give this flower a stand-out look in the garden. It is green deep in the throat with purple veins leading out to the bold eye. There is 3-4 way branching and an average bud count of 15. The large flower and the thick dark edge have made this flower a favorite of mine over the last number of years. 'Gavin Petit' x 'Carpet Bagger'. $25 Double Fan |

Nova Niamh |
'Nova Niamh' is a great one of a kind daylily. The flower colour is a beautiful combination of mauve purple with a unique blend of pastel colours reminiscent of Easter. From the dark mauve on the sepals your eye is immediately drawn towards the green throat. The green throat then expands outward where it coalesces with several shades of yellow before opening into a very wide chalky white watermark. The flower form is classified as a Crispate Unusual Form daylily. It is a full sibling to my 2018 registration 'Linda Marie' and is out of 'Flying Trapeze' x 'White Eyes Pink Dragon'. It has a bud count of 11 and 2-3 way branching. The word 'Niamh' is of Irish origin (pronounced Nee ihv) and is a feminine given name meaning bright or radiant. Beacuse the plant was hybridized in Nova Scotia I added Nova to Niamh. I want to thank my good plant friend Heather Knight for suggesting Niamh. Niamh is the daughter of the Sea god Manannan and was known for her bright golden hair. At times the flower form resembles a pixie or fairy and this was another reason for choosing Niamh. I think this is the most unique looking flower that I have registered. For those who want something a little different, it's a treasure! In the late summer of 2020 several of my Nova Niamh plants sent up rebloom stalks that continued to bloom into early October. $58 DF (Double Fan) |

Nova Scotia Ice Wine |
This daylily reminds me of the blue purple frozen grapes used to make red ice wine here in Nova Scotia. It is a purple flower with a white edging encircling the petals and sepals. It has a green-yellow throat opening to a chalky purple halo. ‘Nova Scotia Ice Wine’ has been a hardy good performing daylily. It is slightly shorter than many of my introductions but has a good mid-sized height of 28”. The large 6” flowers make a good show in an established clump especially with the high bud count of 25 buds per scape. It begins blooming late in the mid-season and with its high bud count it extends well into the late season, adding colour to the garden when many plants have finished blooming for the year. Overall, this is an excellent choice for a daylily that has presence and will bloom over an extended period of weeks. It is a cross between Brian Culver’s ‘Inspiration Road’ and my ‘Emerging Star’. As such, it is a full sibling of my 2021 introduction ‘Ravenmaster’. $58 DF (Double fan) |

Orange You a Great Guy |
For this daylily I crossed my introduction 'Lloyd's Hillendale Sunrise' with 'Last Fool Standing' and I got a large number of very hardy seedlings. After several years of evaluation all the other seedlings were gotten rid of until the best one remained. 'Orange You a Great Guy' was that seedling. This daylily is named to honour Luke Bedell, a young employee who worked for me for 5 years. Luke epitomzed great work ethic and quietly distinguished himself as a very loyal employee. Over the years he demonstrated great dedication to his job and to our business. After leaving our business he gained experience in several not-for profit and small businesses and followed a degree in business at Acadia University. He now runs his own business and works for a major accounting and payroll business. Since high school Luke was also very involved in Rugby, where he excelled provincially, playing for the local clubs but also being 1 of 2 students from Nova Scotia chosen to play on the Atlantic team. He continues to be involved with his community team here in Nova Scotia. Luke is a very bright haired ginger and I found it interesting that his favorite daylily colour is orange. So naturally, when it came to honour him with a daylily he was pretty keen on it being an orange one. The flower is a medium orange colour with a yellow throat that has hints of green at the base of the throat. There is a very showy dark red orange triangular eye. There is a thin dark orange line around the edges of the consistantly ruffled petal edges. This daylily lives up to its name! It has 4-5 way branching on most scapes and has one of the best bud counts of any daylilies that I have introduced so far, with many scapes having over 25 buds per scape. Although the daylily is listed as an early midseason cultivar, because it has so many blooms, its blooming period extends into the beginning of late season. As a midsized plant it will fit into most gardens easily. If you're looking to brighten up an area of your garden with 4-6 weeks of blooms, this is a great plant to fill that need. Out of the Fog |
'Out Of The Fog' is a very reliable grower and bloomer. The flower is a crimson purple with a green throat fading to yellow as it expands outward. The yellow throat is surrounded by a blue/slate halo. The flower exhibits pinching on all 3 petals most of the time, but also consistantly displays cascading on the sepals, making it a Cascade Unusual Form daylily. Numerous qualities make it a good addition to northern gardens. The flower colours hold up well in the sun and the rain. The scapes have 4-5 way branching, giving the blooms a good spaced out appearance. The bud count is 20+, giving it a long season of bloom. It starts to bloom in mid-season and extends into the late season when many other daylilies have already finished blooming. The flowers always open well and the plant is a very hardy dormant. The parents are my 2014 introduction 'Meenoo's Wings' and Jamie Gossard's 'Super Model'. $25 Double Fan |

Pink Triangle |
The pink triangle pointing down was used to mark homosexuals in German prison camps starting around 1933-34. Thousands of homosexuals were incarcerated and it is estimated that 40-60% of those incarcerated died. After the war, many were re-incarcerated because they were homosexual. During the 1970's the pink triangle pointing down became a symbol of solidarity among many groups in the Queer community and what had once been used as a symbol of shame was used with pride in an effort to push back against a society that scorned homosexuality. The AIDS activist organization, Act Up, used the pink triangle pointing upwards. In the 1980's the West German government began to acknowledge the mistreatment of gays during Nazi Germany and apologized to the gay community in 2002. Although many countries around the world have moved to entrench gay rights and offer protection against discrimination based on sexuality/sexual identity, the heartbreaking reality is that many countries are still very repressive against members of the Queer community. Worldwide, discrimination and incarceration and even the death penalty for members of the LGBTQ+ community continue. Therefore, I wanted to name this daylily 'Pink Triangle' in an effort to stand in solidarity with the struggles worldwide for the LGBTQ+ community. The triangular shape of the flower and especially the triangular yellow throat of this beautiful pink daylily make it an excellent choice for the name. This daylily results from a cross made between Ontario hybridizer Brian Culver's 'Inspiration Rd.' and my 2016 introduction 'Lavender Space Journey' (incidentally, both hybridizers are members of the LGBTQ+ community). I had many seedlings from this cross but all of the other seedlings came out as lavender flowers and this was the only one that was an obvious pink. It is a full sibling to my 2020 introduction 'Bitonal Symphony'. The plant is a very hardy dormant and the flowers open well in all weather conditions. At 30" tall and with a 6.5" flower it's not easily overlooked in the garden. It has 4-5 way branching on the scapes and a really good average bud count of 20 buds per scape. This is another one of my plants that begins blooming in the mid-late season, so it will add colour to the garden when the flush of midseason bloomers begins to decline. This daylily should appeal to people for many reasons. Double fan (DF) $55.00 |

Quasar Caught Dining |
'Quasar Caught Dining' resulted from a cross of my 2011 introduction 'Red-edged Sunrise' as the pod parent and 'Magnify The Lord' as the pollen parent. The intensity of the red is greater in 'Quasar Caught Dining' than in its parent and it also has a wider red edge which I believe comes from the pollen parent. The flower is very sunfast and has very little difficulty opening. The plant itself has been very hardy and fairly vigorous. Although it is not a particularly tall plant, it would make a standout plant near the front of a garden. The flower is a golden yellow with a bright red eye and thick red edge on the crimped petals. Although I have not listed it as a rebloomer, it has had some rebloom on it. The saturated colours fade very little in hot weather, giving a bright stand-out flower in the garden. 'Quasar Caught Dining' is named with reference to the discovery that quasars most likely fuel their brightness by eating up gas from other sources, probably neighbouring galaxies. Scapes have 3= way branching with an average of 14 buds per scape. $30 DF (Double fan) |

Ravenmaster |
‘Ravenmaster’ has been a standout daylily having proven itself for many seasons. It is a full sibling to my 2021 introduction, ‘Nova Scotia Ice Wine’ from the cross of ‘Inspiration Road’ and my introduction ‘Emerging Star’. It has a good mid-sized height of 31” and a large 7” flower. The colour is an intense very dark purple black and a green-yellow throat. When it comes to blooming it is no slouch, as it has an average bud count of 30 per scape! Besides having a great bud count it also has 5-6 way branching on the scapes, which holds the blossoms apart and provides a fantastic show on an established clump. It begins blooming in mid-season, but the high bud count carries its bloom time well into mid-late and late season. The intense almost black colour stands out wonderfully when planted with yellow, near white, and bright orange flowers. The flower form is a Pinched Crispate Cascade, Unusual Form. The name comes from the title given to the person in charge of taking care of the ravens in the Tower of London, the ravenmaster. This is a great daylily with superb intense colour, guaranteed to add another dimension to your garden. $65 DF (Double fan) |

Regal Diva's Eyeshadow |
Regal Diva's Eyeshadow is a plum colour with a lighter slate mauve watermark. The green throat turns to pale yellow as it extends outward toward the watermark. The flower has pale cream raised midribs and there is a narrow, creamy white edge surrounding the petals and sepals. The scapes have 2-3 way branching and an average of 20 buds. It has been a very hardy plant with 'Forever The Optimist' as the pod parent and 'Supermodel' as the pollen parent. This is another very good daylily for extending the bloom season as it blooms mid-late and has a very healthy bud count that provides blooming over a long period of time. At 41 inches tall and with a large flower, it has proven to be a good plant for the middle or back of the landscape. $25 DF (Double Fan) |

Robert W. H. Baldwin |
This cross involved bringing the hardiness and great plant habit of 'Spirit Zone' (pod parent) into the magnificent flower of 'Gavin Petit'. The resulting seedlings were eliminated one by one, with this one dominating for its acquired hardiness, large-sized flower and overall good plant habit. It is a large bold peach flower, with a showy dark wine eye that extends out to a point on the midrib. The dark wine colour of the eye completely surrounds the petal edges, but with a light cream outer edge. The large eye feathers outward on the petals and sepals. It is named after a friend, Nova Scotia business owner and great plant person, Rob Baldwin. 3-4 way branching and 15 buds. $18 (Double fan) |

Role Reversal |
This is another unique daylily due to it being registered as a relatively rare reverse bitone. I chose the name 'Role Reversal' for that reason because it is more common to find bitone daylilies with dark petals and lighter sepals than reverse bitones with lighter petals and darker sepals. 'Role Reversal' has a beautiful flower with dark pink crimped sepals and lighter pink petals above a pale yellow throat. Later in the bloom season the bitone aspect of the flower is less visible. This daylily has 3 way branching and a good bud count of 14, with blooms starting in midseason and extending to early late season. The cross is from my 'Lavender Space Journey' crossed with Bryan Culver's 'Lady Talk'. If you've been collecting lots of daylilies and want something a little different, this daylily can fill that need! $55.00 DF (Double Fan) |

Seaedge Dot and Chet |
'Seaedge Dot and Chet' was named to honour Chester Reese and his wife Dorothy. Together they gardened and sold many types of landscape plants at their very lovely Seaedge Gardens on the edge of the Bay of Fundy in Port George, Nova Scotia. They helped to popularize daylilies in Nova Scotia and were also daylily hybridizers. They are to be honoured for a lifetime of popularizing landscape gardening that included lilies, daylilies, water plants, and a host of other perennials. Additionally, they were responsible for my falling in love with Japanese Irises when I first saw them in bloom in their gardens. 'Seaedge Dot and Chet' is a large bright yellow flower with a wine eye and edge. There is a partial pencil-line white edge along the outside of the wine edge. There is a very noticeable green throat with only slight hints of yellow. The plant has been a good grower and is a very winter hardy dormant with 2-3 way branching and an average of 11 buds. The cross was from one of my seedlings ('Spirit Zone' x 'Gavin Petit'17) crossed with 'Heavenly Dark Matter'. $25 DF (Double fan) |

'Spirit Zone' x 'El Desperado' The bloom on this plant is a pale orange with lighter midribs intersecting a wine coloured eye. The yellow throat has green undertones. The flower is a good EMO even on cool mornings. The plant has 4-5 way branching and 25 buds. This is a very good addition for late season blooms because it opens very well and the high bud count extends the bloom season significantly. A nice garden addition when most of the other daylilies have finished blooming for the season. $15(Double fan) |

Son of a Sea Cook |
This daylily is a Cascade and Pinched/Twisted Crispate Unusual Form. It is a cross between one of my seedlings ('Flying Trapeze' x 'Heavenly United We Stand') crossed with 'Red Volunteer'. I have been breeding with reds to try and get improvement in bud count over some of the reds that are presently on the market. In terms of the daylilies that I grow and many that I have seen, this one appears to be an improvement. It has 5-6 way branching on many of the scapes and a great bud count with more than 27 buds on many of the scapes. It begins to bloom in mid-late season and with its high bud count, blooming continues well into the late season. The colour is a nice clear fairly dark red but with some orange tones especially along the edges of the ruffled petals. The flower has a wide yellow throat with hints of green and a darker red eye surrounding the throat. If you're looking for more colour in your garden later in the season and colour that lasts for a good 4-6 weeks, this one should do the trick! Double Fan (DF) $40 |

Tarantulas on Telephone Poles |
This daylily has a dark burgundy purple flower. A large golden yellow throat is surrounded by a chalky blue/gray chevron pattern halo that is not always visible. The yellow throat has a starburst effect on the petals and sepals. A white pencil-line edge surrounds the petals and sepals. From a distance, the very large (8") dark flowers are reminiscent of giant spiders. When in bloom, the plant stands out because the scapes are 48" tall. It towers above most of the other daylilies and truly resembles 'Tarantulas On Telephone Poles'. It is a Pinched Crispate Unusual Form Daylily. If you are looking for a tall, dark, and handsome flower that opens well and looks good in the middle or back of a garden bed, this one should serve that purpose well. It is a very hardy plant. 'Divine Inspiration' x 'Super Model'. $18 Double Fan |

Tardy Hardy Flower Party |
This daylily is the result of crossing 2 seedlings which I no longer grow. Sometimes the offspring are an improvement in many ways over the parents. The parents are (Lady Bandit x Magnify the Lord) x (El Desperado x Dragon Flight11). The flower on this daylily opens well even after cool nights and and the scapes have 2-3 way branching and an excellent average bud count of 25 per scape. The light cream colour of the flower is accentuated by the dark wine eye and edge. It starts blooming in midseason and because of the high bud count it blooms later into the season. I named it 'Tardy Hardy Flower Party' first of all because it starts to bloom later in the season, thus the word tardy. There are some similar or even better looking cultivars on the market but they haven't proved themselves hardy in my climate, unlike this daylily which is very hardy. Because it has a high bud count and very good branching, an established clump in bloom does look like a wonderful flower party! If you're looking for a flower that opens well, blooms later in the season and has blooms for many weeks, and that is also a very hardy plant, then this one is for you! Double Fan (DF) $45.00 |

Timberdoodle Sunset |
'Timberdoodle Sunset' was named by Bernard Jackson and is registered in his honour. Bernard Jackson came to Newfoundland in 1958 and served on the Wildlife Park Advisory Committee and helped to form the Salmonier Nature Park. Memorial University of Newfoundland asked him to develop the Oxen Pond Botanical Park (renamed MUN Botanical Garden) and he oversaw its development from 1971 to 1993. After moving to Truro, Nova Scotia he designed and helped install the rock gardens at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro and helped to establish the volunteer group Friends of the Gardens to help maintain the campus gardens. Bernard is a wealth of information about plants and has made significant contributions to landscape gardening in eastern Canada. Therefore, he is especially worthy of having the daylily 'Timberdoodle Sunset' registered in his honour. Timberdoodle is actually another name for the Woodcock. Bernard remembers from when he was younger, seeing woodcock flying out of the woods at sunset and this inspired the name 'Timberdoodle Sunset'. The parents of 'Timberdoodle Sunset' are 'Lloyd's Hillendale Sunrise' and 'Heavenly Orange Blaze'. This daylily is an early season bloomer with 3-4 way branching on the scapes and an average bud count of 15 buds per scape. The flower is a bitone with dark burnt orange petals and lighter orange sepals mixed with golden yellow. It has a bright golden yellow triangular throat that maximizes the distinctiveness of the bitone flower. It is of average height at 32" tall but the flower is fairly large at 6", which helps it to be quite noticeable. If you're always anxious for the daylily bloom season to begin, this is a variety that blooms early and is a good choice for kickstarting your daylily season with a distinctive standout flower. Tricuspid Passion Release |
'Tricuspid Passion Release' is a lovely cream coloured daylily flower with a green throat turning to yellow as it extends outward towards the light fuchsia wine eye. Bright cream rays pierce the eye and extend outward along the raised midribs creating a starburst effect. There is a golden yellow filigree edge on the petals. The scapes have an average of 16 buds which are spread out well with 3-4 way branching. The name emerged from the eye looking heart shaped and of course being in three segments with a starbusrt effect created by the rays. This is another dormant and very hardy plant in my garden where freeze/thaw conditions prevail in most winters. If you're looking for a midsized plant with a lighter coloured, but patterned daylily flower, this one has a good length of bloom season. It is a cross between 'Spirit Zone' and 'Dragon Flight'. $20 DF (Double fan) |

Women Seeking Women |
‘Women Seeking Women’ has been a superb daylily for many seasons in my garden. It combines my introduction ‘Emerging Star’ with Jamie Gossard’s ‘White Eyes Pink Dragon’. It is a beautiful clear coloured pink flower with a green throat opening outward to a soft lemon yellow. ‘Women Seeking Women’ has narrow white midribs and some pleating on the petals. The flower always opens well in any weather conditions and it is a hardy dormant plant. It has a good bud count of 18 and 3-way branching on 36” scapes. The large 7” flowers show up very well and provide a lovely accent to any garden. I have named it to honour my good daylily gardening friends Joan Bradley and her partner Louise Plourde. When they visited my garden a couple of years ago, I mentioned that I wanted to name a daylily ’Women Seeking Women’ (‘Women Seeking Men’ is a popular daylily already on the market). They were excited by the idea and were adamant that I would need to choose a pink daylily seedling. I am pleased to be able to fulfill that plan and dedicate ‘Women Seeking Women’ to Louise and Joan! $65.00 DF (Double fan) |
