This gorgeous daylily with its elaborate ruffles was from a cross of one of the best daylilies that I grow, 'Forever The Optimist' which was hybridized by fellow Nova Scotian, Don Longton. 'Queen's Petticoat' has a flesh pink flower that fades slightly to cream pink, with a touch of green at the base of the yellow throat. The flower has very heavy ruffling and mouse ears around the edges of the petals and to a lesser extent around the sepals. Ruffles often extend into the folds of the petals and there are also slightly raised midribs. The scapes have 4-5 way branching and a great bud count of 25 or more per scape. This voluptuous flower deserves a place in gardens everywhere. However, it should be placed at the front of garden beds for maximum viewing pleasure since it is short in stature and the flowers are held slighty above the foliage. Good heat increases the heavy ruffling but it also has performed very well in my cool weather garden. $45 DF (Double fan)
