From the first time I saw this daylily I loved it. I am pleased to be able to register it and introduce it because it has qualities that make it unique. I don't do much hybridizing with diploid daylilies but I got 2 seeds from a pod a number of years ago and this one was selected for further evaluation. Unfortunately, the tag was lost and I am uncertain of the parentage. It is a unique flower because it is a reverse bitone, which are relatively rare among daylilies. It is also a late blooming plant which helps to extend the season when the bulk of daylilies are finished blooming. The flowers are classified as Unusual Form and it is further classified as a Twisted Crispate. The scapes have good branching which provides a lovely bouquet effect when multiple flowers are open. The plant has a good density of scapes so even though the bud count is not extremely high it produces lots of flowers. I am happy to name this daylily after one of my good gardening friends, Donna Evers. Donna is a literal encyclodedia of knowledge about plants. She is not only an encyclopedia but a real gardener too. She and her husband Duff have gardened together for their entire married life. So, Donna's knowledge goes beyond sitting at a computer doing plant searches. She and Duff have actually filled their property with whatever shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals and bulbs that would grow in their varied conditions, from bog, rock walls, shade and sun. Their garden looks like it is right out of a gardening magazine and has been visited by countless garden groups and individuals. An educator by profession, Donna is always ready to guide and educate those visitors. Many people have been the recipient of her very generous heart, receiving all kinds of plants and even some of her handiwork or scrumptious baking! Recently, she and Duff spearheaded an effort to turn a section of Halifax Regional Municipality land beside their property, into a beautiful meadow. It was a wonderful success and was recently featured in Saltscapes magazine. For her great contribution to landscape gardening in Nova Scotia I dedicate this daylily to Donna Evers. $55.00 DF (Double fan)
