Galactic Eclipse
Several years ago I crossed the daylily 'Gavin Petit' with 'Loaves and Fishes', resulting in several interesting seedlings with dark eyes. However, none were very vigorous or particularly hardy. I selected the best one of the bunch for breeding purposes to work on vigour and hardiness while trying to keep the darker colours. A cross of (Gavin Petit x Loaves and Fishes1) with 'Clarification' produced some great looking seedlings and many are vigorous and most are hardy in my garden. 'Galactic Eclipse' is the first of those seedlings to be registered, with others being considered. Additionally, I have been using them in my breeding program with lots of great looking seedlings now being evaluated. 'Galactic Eclipse' is a mid-late blooming daylily so it blooms through August into early September in my cool coastal garden. It is a gorgeous clear coloured daylily. The flower is a deep wine in colour with a very dark wine (near black) eye and edge. Wine striations extend from the dark eye into the yellow throat giving the effect of a star emerging from an eclipse in the middle of a very dark galaxy. For those who are drawn to darker colours this is a must have intensely coloured daylily. Surrounded by yellow or lighter coloured flowers this daylily will make a statement in your garden! Each bloomstalk has 2-3 way branching and a good bud count of 15 that will provide bouquets of blooms in the mid-late season garden. $65.00 DF (Double Fan)
